variant three: ideas

part of the problem of variant three is to understand how to encase a space (that might be irregular) and present it for analysis and redesign.

in this way, rachel whiteread "casts" the space of a staircase and takes it out and places it sideways

here it suggests a form (coffin chair)

here, the form adapts (ie. scene of the crime coffin)

the other possibility is to make the form become faceted (as planes) and manipulate those (as in these 2 examples)...

finally, it might look as simple as this... (in particular the top one where the project in chipboard is "clothed" by the white model; the 2nd row left, where the model is encased by the 2 side pieces which, here, are pulled apart; the same happens to the one below that, 3rd row left)

or this (a miesian boxlike structure is encased by an oteiza-looking cube)

the intention was to create a dignified and austere form, reject bronze and marble, avoid a tradition that associates the funerary program to excessive ornamentation. overcome conventions, atavisms, inheritances. generate a true, powerful, resolved image. build a work that is pure structure.  that is what its author proposed, in opposition, to the "usual syrupy treatments on the subject."
